6LoWPAN stands for "IPv6 over Low-Power Wireless Personal Area Networks" and denotes a set of mechanisms that enable IPv6 packet transmission over energy- and resource-constrained wireless networks based on IEEE 802.15.4. These include IPv6 header compression and fragmentation of packets that exceed the size of a single IEEE 802.15.4 frame. This allows constrained devices to gain IPv6 connectivity and integrate into IP-based networks.
